Yun and I drove out from the homestead again this morning. Another opportunity to place our lives in the
hands of idiots who couldn’t shift a manual transmission if their depended on
it. “A manual transmission?” they say “man,
you’re old!” And they have the driving
manners of gnu’s on the African veldt crossing a river chock full of
crocodiles. Don’t get me started!
Anyway, had to go visit a while with our guts, colon, and
liver specialist. Could be worse, could
be a doctor I don’t like. Results from
my blood work last week show my internal organs, at least those listed above)
are in good condition. “You're in good
shape Mr. Welch” I’m told and then in a low monotone, almost a whisper, “for
your age.” And I don’t think they know
they’re even doing that. Why do they do
that, do you think? Do they think we
don’t know that we’re old. And we old
people (perhaps not old but definitely older) just sit there, because he’s a
good doctor and doesn’t mean any harm, and we don’t want to offend anyone. They should put a sign up in their waiting
room that says “Old age is hazardous to your health!” right next to the one
that says “The older you are the worse condition your organs are.” Don't get me started!
Probably Yun and I should just not be so excitable. No, actually it’s not fair of me to put Yun
in that category. So I guess I should
just settle down. After all, I’m still
new in the old category and am still learning how to adapt. Now Yun doesn’t have to learn to adapt to old
age, because she is one lady who doesn’t take guff (there I go again, using
another four letter substitute for C**p, which is the proper word) from
anyone. She’ll get in your face so fast
you won’t see her coming. . Just like that little kid in Family Ties
always did to his brother. You remember
“What’cha say Wilber!?” I guarantee you won’t like the beatdown she hands
you. Don’t misunderstand, I admire her
for that. In fact, I used to be that way
myself. What changed? I don’t know. I just don't want to get in anyones face and I don't want them in mine.
Disclaimer: I really
don’t mind getting old, and it doesn’t bother me to be reminded of it. My doctors and their staff are really very polite and as considerate as they can be considering their entire work day is spent with sick people.
More later (There's always more, later not so much!)
